Improvements in the pipeline: Internet and new computer
Thanks to a grant from the New-Land Foundation via our partners IGC in the US, GreenNet will be able to upgrade its current computer for a new, larger, faster model to cope with the increasing number of users and volumes of information flow.
We will also be able to install a leased line connection to the Internet, allowing users to connect to GreenNet via telnet from other Internet sites, and allowing GreenNet users to connect to other Internet services. IGC already runs an extensive menu of database options, most of which will immediately become available to GreenNet users at no extra cost. Delivery of mail and exchange of conference messages will be speeded up by these improvements, since a leased line effectively gives us a permanently open channel to other APC nodes on the Internet (currently IGC, Web, Pegasus, Alternex.) The upgrade work is scheduled to start late March or early April, and you will be given plenty of warning of potential interruptions to the service while we test and install the new equipment.

NEW LOWER RATES!
GreenNet has revised its rates, introducing lower off-peak and gateway charges, and two new options for low and heavy users. A free storage allocation of 50Kbytes (about 16-20 pages of A4 equivalent) has been introduced for mail. The overall reduction in prices should make a noticable difference to all users, and take account of lower costs for providing the service. Please check the enclosed sheet for details to see if you can benefit from changing to a low or high use option.

UPDATE ON APC'S PRESENCE AT VIENNA - IMPORTANT
This is an open access conference. We need your input to know what to provide at Vienna...both for those NGOs who will be present, and for those waiting for news back in the office... please contact support for more information. Other principal WCHR conferences include:

unhr.news - for general information about WCHR

unhr.general - a gathering place for NGOs to network around the conference.

unhr.ngoneeds is a new conference established to enable NGOs and APC to discuss what they need and want at Vienna.

Bursting all over the place.....
We now have BURST on GreenNet...this is a little trick whereby you can create one file in a particular way, so that when you upload it, it automatically creates new conference topics and attaches new responses to existing topics...all at once! This means you can do all your uploading to one conference with one lot of key strokes, rather than having to upload each item one by one....type "burst" at the main command prompts and find out how to do it...
